Axe Arcade: Keep Up With Your Score & Try New Games

This high-tech digital scoring app allows you to get granular with your game. More fun, less math, intuitive design – we use it almost every time we throw! While you don’t have to download the app to play, it does open up a whole new world of match types and stats tracking.

Let's Go Over
Some
Of the Rules
Basics & Setup
  • All waivers must be signed before anyone touches an axe, and we do not allow anyone under 11 into the lanes. Those under the age of 18 need to have a parent or legal guardian present.
  • All targets must be in good working order to ensure good throws stick and shrapnel is minimized.
  • Players will throw from our designated throwing boxes as marked on the floor; they will stand 12-15 feet away from the targets.
Warm Ups
  • Each player gets up to 5 practice throws before their first match
  • Each player gets 1 practice throw before each subsequent match
Throwing Technique
  • Single-handed & over or behind the head
  • Double-handed & over or behind the head

For safety reasons, no other throw styles are permitted.

  • The axe should make at least 1 rotation for points to count.
  •  Players must have their front foot in the boxed area when throwing; the back foot may be behind them and outside of the boxed area without penalty.
  • The thrower’s front foot can touch the front line during the throw but they can NOT pass the line.
    • The throw gets a score of 0 if any part of the foot is over the line during any part of the throw before the release.
    • If any part of the foot is over the line AFTER the release, the throw is counted (if the momentum of following through carries you forward, that’s alright).
Scoring

The thrown axe must remain in the target for the points to be awarded. If it falls out before the axe is picked up, the player gets 0 points. The defending team has to retrieve the axe in a reasonable amount of time – they can’t sit idle, hoping for it to fall out.

Points
  • Hitting the black line awards points associated with that ring – if the axe is in 2 rings at the same time, the player is awarded the points for the higher ring
  • 6 points for the bullseye
  • 4 points for the 2nd ring
  • 3 points for the 3rd ring
  • 2 points for the 4th ring
  • 1 point for the 5th ring
  • 10 points for the bonus balls

The bonus ball shot is only available on the tenth and final throw of the match.

  • Otherwise the bonus balls are worth 1 point (the value of the ring they are in).
  • During the final throw of the match, the coach will provide a countdown starting from 3 (3,2,1), to indicate when the axes are to be thrown.
  • On this final throw, axes MUST be thrown at the same time. If an axe hits the target before the second player’s axe leaves their hands, the late thrower will be given 0 points.
If The Back Of The Axe Sticks

This doesn’t happen much – but we have seen it! If the back of the blade or any other part sticks, the throw counts and points are awarded.

Safety
  • Every single axe used is inspected each to to ensure it is up to our high standards; they will not be broken, dull OR razor sharp to the touch.
  • Throwers are instructed to grip the axe by the handle and only the handle.
